Everything is a gift, really, if you choose to look at it that way. My first marriage was a gift for many reasons, but for one, I got awesome step kids out of the deal! My step kids are such a gift (even though I don’t like that word and I always call them my kids or my big kids). Then I married John and I got two MORE big kids! I won the jackpot of life, I really did. We get along so well and I’m so freaking blessed because I know many “step” relationships are very strained. I never had that. I’m so grateful that I have experienced the joy of being a mom AND step mom, even thought it’s the hardest freaking thing I’ve ever had to do! Now my kids are bigger than all the kids, and they are teenagers, so I’m just holding on for dear life most days! But I was super lucky to have two step kids from the time I was only 22 years old, and they were 18 months old and 3. Their dad and I married when I was only 25. I’ve always felt so fortunate that their mother included me in things like Mother’s Day programs for the kids. She always treated me with incredible kindness and respect, and would treat me like their second mom, and we became friends! For that, I’m forever grateful.
I wanted a partner who would show me they were grateful for me.
Mother’s Day can be a little tough on single moms. This is something I know firsthand. Some of our kids’ teachers do an incredible job helping the kids make darling Mother’s Day gifts for us, and my Dad would always buy me flowers on Mother’s Day which was so nice. But when I was a single parent I longed for a husband who would make this particular holiday special for me. I wanted someone to show me that they were grateful for me and all the work that I put into being a good parent. (Hey, we’re all doing the best we can!)
Today I can say I was lucky enough to find the perfect partner. I don’t mean he is perfect, I mean he is perfect for me. He’s the only human that could put up with me, I’m completely convinced! I have a husband who makes me breakfast AND dinner on Mother’s Day! He lets me choose anything I want to do. All I ever want is for us to do something together as a family, forever and for always – just like the Shania Twain song lyrics. Having teens (one boy, one girl) it’s getting harder to find things that they both like to do, but we all love to swing golf balls as it turns out! We went to Top Golf this year and Brandon’s actually getting really good. John is a CHAMP and kills us every time. But I have to say, my swing is getting pretty good myself, and I just might take up golf after 44 years of saying how much I hate it and how boring it is!

Forever and For Always by Shania Twain
In your arms I can still feel the way you
Want me when you hold me
I can still hear the words you whispered
When you told me
I can stay right here forever in your arms
And there ain’t no way,
I’m lettin’ you go now
And there ain’t no way,
And there ain’t no how
I’ll never see that day
Cause I’m keeping you
Forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
Morning to your sweet face, always
Mmmm, baby
In your heart, I can still hear
A beat for every time you kiss me
And when we’re apart,
I know how much you miss me
I can feel your love for me in your heart
And there ain’t no way,
I’m lettin’ you go now
And there ain’t now way,
And there ain’t no how
I’ll never see that day
Cause I’m keeping you
Forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
Morning to your sweet face, always
In your eyes, I can still see
The look of the one who really loves me
The one who wouldn’t put anything else
In the world above me
I can still see your love for me in your eyes
And there ain’t no way,
I’m lettin’ you go now
And there ain’t no way,
And there ain’t no how
I’ll never see that day
Cause I’m keeping you
Forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
Morning to your sweet face
I’m keeping you forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
Morning to your sweet face, always
I’m keeping you forever and for always
I’m in your arms

This song reminds me of the family I always wanted, the husband I always wanted, and all the good things we can attract into our life if we are clear about what it is that we want. I’m so happy to have found my forever, and so can you!
