My Love Playlist | I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons

This song from My Love Playlist called “I Will Wait” by Mumford and Sons is one of my faves from the list. I feel like Mumford & Sons brought back music that people used to listen to in the past. His voice is scratchy and imperfect, all the guitars and banjos feels like you’re going back in time! So cool. And their lyrics (poetry, really) are super powerful.

Hearing these words, I envisioned a future with my soulmate

Now, some of the lyrics to this song are kind of abstract. I must admit I don’t really know the exact meaning of some of the lyrics for the songwriter. But that’s the beauty of music. Lyrics mean different things to different people. When I listened to this song, I visualized my man coming home from work after a long day and “falling heavy into my arms”. I visualized my soulmate coming home to me, and he couldn’t wait for us to be holding each other. Picturing that event every and holding onto that vision of what I wanted my future to look like in my mind single day helped keep my focus. Guess what? That’s exactly what happens at the end of every single day today.

It wasn’t until I became and remained diligent about what I wanted life to be like (for example in the evenings when he was coming home to me every night) that my husband and I came together. When I listened to the lyrics of this song, I thought to myself, “Yes! I want a man who will wait for me.” Was he out there waiting? Yes, I believed that he was. Would I wait for him? Could I wait? Yes, definitely. “I will wait for you.” The words rang out and encouraged me to keep going. Step by step, I worked on myself, worked on becoming the person he was waiting for so it didn’t seem like waiting!

I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons

Well, I came home
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
These days of dust
Which we’ve known
Will blow away with this new sun

I wondered if he was out there getting ready to meet me

But I’ll kneel down,
Wait for now
And I’ll kneel down,
Know my ground

And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

So break my step
And relent
Well, you forgave and I won’t forget
Know what we’ve seen
And him with less
Now in some way shake the excess

‘Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

The lyrics inspired me to be patient and wait for him

Now I’ll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So tame my flesh
And fix my eyes
A tethered mind freed from the lies

And I’ll kneel down,
Wait for now
I’ll kneel down,
Know my ground

Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow

‘Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

And trust me, it was all worth the wait.

Music is what helped me stay on my game when I felt discouraged. He was waiting for me just like I was waiting for him, and he wouldn’t settle either. It took patience, but I just kept plugging away, working on myself to get ready for finding my true soulmate. And that’s exactly who I got. I’m so blessed.

If I can find love again, then why not you? Are you ready to take that leap of faith? It all starts with believing in yourself.
