I cry every time I hear “My Love Is Your Love” by Whitney Houston. I miss Whitney. She’s one of the most incredible singers of our time. But this song, specifically…I probably listened to it at least two hundred times before I married John. I cried because I desperately wanted a love like that— a love so strong that at judgment day when “the Lord asks me what I did with my life, I will say I spent it with [him].” Don’t we all want that?
I cry now because…well, I’m not exactly sure why. I’m more emotional than I’ve ever been (and that’s saying a LOT). So I cry out of gratitude. I cry because I have been given the gift of real love, and that is my reality now. If I lost everything, and still had John, I know I would be alright. I can do anything with him by my side forever, no matter what happens (and we’ve been through some serious sh*t). “It would take an eternity to break us.”
The last 17 months I was single, I was determined to become the person I wanted to be so I could attract the man who I wanted to be with. I followed my strategies every day, even though there was no physical evidence that anything was happening. Even after a breakup or a “horrible” date, I got down on my knees and said over and over “Thank you, God, for sending me my soul mate.” I envisioned that he would be lying right beside me, and now he is. Even when we get in a fight, I STILL don’t want him sleeping anywhere else. (at least not for long.) Just kidding.
Mamas, keep focusing on what you want to create. Keep envisioning the kind of love and life that is ON ITS WAY TO YOU RIGHT NOW! Keep listening to music that reflects your hope and faith in the future you want to build. It’s on its way!! Until then, swoon over this pure poetry with me.
“My Love Is Your Love” by Whitney Houston
If tomorrow is judgment day
And I’m standing on the front line
And the Lord asks me what I did with my life
I will say I spent it with you
The chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us.
If I wake up in World War III
I see destruction and poverty
And I feel like I want to go home
It’s okay if you’re coming with me
‘Cause your love is my love
And my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
‘Cause your love is my love
And my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
If I lose my fame and fortune (really don’t matter)
And I’m homeless on the street (on the street Lord)
And I’m sleeping in Grand Central Station (okay)
It’s okay if you’re sleeping with me
I can’t wait to grow old with you.
As the years they pass us by (the years, the years, the years, the years, the years)
We stay young through each other’s eyes (each other’s eyes)
And no matter how old we get
It’s okay as long as I got you baby
‘Cause your love is my love
And my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
‘Cause your love is my love
And my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
If I should die this very day (very very very day)
Don’t cry (don’t cry), ’cause on Earth we weren’t meant to stay
And no matter what the people say (really don’t matter)
I’ll be waiting for you after the judgment day
Your love is my love.
‘Cause your love is my love
And my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
‘Cause your love is my love
And my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
