Funny how music is so powerful that it can take you to a specific place and time. When I hear the song “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood, that place is the home of my good friends, Marlo and Dave. During my last summer being single, I hadn’t seen them in years and I was headed from South Carolina to visit them en route to a business trip to DC.
I wanted a ‘Higher Love’ with a soulmate who lifts people’s spirits
We ate steaks, drank wine, and laughed all night. It brought me to focus on relationships like theirs. Here was a couple who had been together 20 years, had been through SO MUCH, and were still in love. They still had each other’s backs.
Seeing them and thinking about their relationship kept me from getting discouraged about finding that higher love that I had been dreaming of in my own life as a single mom. I wanted the real thing, and after my love revelation I believed it could happen.
So I began listening to specific music to help keep me aligned with what I wanted to attract in a soulmate. It wasn’t until I actually did this religiously, ONLY listening to music with lyrics that spoke to what I wanted, that I attracted the real deal. That was the beginning of my love playlist and this song is still one of my favorites.
Higher Love By Steve Winwood
Think about it, there must be higher love
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is a wasted time
Look inside your heart, I’ll look inside mine
I wanted soulmate love so powerful we could change the world
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see,
Falling behind in what could be
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where’s that higher love I keep thinking of?
Worlds are turning and we’re just hanging on
Facing our fear and standing out there alone
A yearning, and it’s real to me
There must be someone who’s feeling for me
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where’s that higher love I keep thinking of?
I was willing to wait and not give up anything on my Soulmate List
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring be a higher love
I could rise above on a higher love
I will wait for it
I’m not too late for it
Until then, I’ll sing my song
To cheer the night along
I could light the night up with my soul on fire
I could make the sun shine from pure desire
Let me feel that love come over me
Let me feel how strong it could be
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where’s that higher love I keep thinking of?
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love oh
Bring me a higher love oh
Bring me a higher love oh
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love…
My soulmate lifts my spirit and so does this song
